Offline password manager you fully control
KeePassXC is a free, open-source password manager that stores all your passwords in a single encrypted database file on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a company's cloud unless you choose to sync the file yourself, for example with OneDrive or a USB drive.
It generates strong random passwords, auto-types logins into apps, and fills passwords in Chrome, Firefox and Edge through its browser extension. It also supports two-factor authentication codes (TOTP), SSH agent integration, hardware keys such as YubiKey, and health reports that warn you about weak or reused passwords. The database format is compatible with KeePass apps on Android and iPhone.
Because you manage the file yourself, syncing between devices takes a little setup and there is no account recovery if you forget the master password. For people who want full control over their passwords, KeePassXC is an excellent choice.
Pros
- Passwords stay on your own device
- Browser integration and TOTP codes
- Open source and audited format
Cons
- Syncing between devices is manual
- No recovery if the master password is lost
