Malware scanner and remover
Malwarebytes is a well-known anti-malware program that finds and removes viruses, adware, spyware, ransomware and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that traditional antivirus software sometimes misses. It is popular as a second-opinion scanner alongside Windows Security.
The free version lets you run on-demand scans and clean up infections whenever you want. The paid Premium version adds real-time protection, web protection against malicious sites, and ransomware protection. New installations usually include a time-limited Premium trial, after which the program falls back to the free scanner.
Scans are reasonably fast and the interface is clean and easy to understand. The main limitation is that continuous protection requires a subscription. If your PC is showing pop-ups, browser hijacks or unwanted toolbars, or you simply want a trusted second scan, Malwarebytes is one of the first tools to try.
