Compare and merge files and folders
WinMerge is a free, open-source tool for comparing and merging files and folders on Windows. It shows two or three versions of a document side by side and highlights exactly what was added, removed or changed, line by line and even character by character.
Beyond text and source code, WinMerge can compare whole folder trees to find missing or changed files, and it can compare images, binary files and, with plugins, Word and Excel documents. You can copy changes from one side to the other with a click, making it useful for merging edits, reviewing changes and syncing folders.
The interface is practical rather than modern, and very large files can be slow to compare. For programmers, writers and anyone who needs to see the difference between two versions of something, WinMerge is a reliable everyday tool.
