Blender is a complete, open-source 3D suite covering modelling, sculpting, animation, rendering, simulation and even video editing. It is used by independent artists, game developers and studios, and costs nothing for personal or commercial work.
The interface has a real learning curve, but a huge community produces free tutorials for almost everything. A dedicated graphics card makes rendering far faster, although Blender will run on modest PCs for learning.
