Git for Windows brings Git, the world's most widely used version control system, to Windows. Git tracks every change to your code, lets you experiment safely on branches, and makes it easy to collaborate with others through services such as GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket.
The package includes Git Bash, a terminal with common Unix tools, Git GUI for a simple graphical workflow, and Git Credential Manager for secure sign-in to hosting services. It also integrates with the Windows right-click menu and works with editors like Visual Studio Code.
The installer asks several technical questions; the default answers are fine for most users. Git itself has a learning curve, but a handful of commands — clone, add, commit, push and pull — cover everyday use. For anyone who writes code, even alone, Git is an essential tool.
