Free office suite compatible with MS Office files

LibreOffice is a free and open-source office suite and the most complete free alternative to Microsoft Office. It includes Writer for documents, Calc for spreadsheets, Impress for presentations, Draw for diagrams, Base for databases and Math for formulas.

It opens and saves Microsoft Office formats such as .docx, .xlsx and .pptx, and uses the open OpenDocument format by default. It can also export to PDF in one click. There is no subscription, no account and no limit on how many computers you install it on, which makes it popular with students, small businesses and schools.

Complex Office documents with advanced macros or unusual formatting may not always look identical, and the interface feels more traditional than Microsoft 365. The download is fairly large. For writing, spreadsheets and presentations without paying a yearly fee, LibreOffice is a powerful and reliable choice.
